(Special Feature) My Anime Collection

Since I have recently moved my collection to a place that I can show it off easier, when is a better opportunity to show it to you all then now?  Anytime probably, but whatever.  I recently acquired Kino’s Journey and I don’t plan on buying anything until the holiday season when huge anime sales make an appearance.  It’s going to be stagnant for a while with the exception of Escaflowne: The Movie, because I backed that Kickstarter.  With little further to do, here are some pictures.

-First series added to this collection: Gundam Wing (My brother bought them for me for my birthday a long time ago)

-First Series that I bought myself:  Strain and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1.  I bought them at the same time from Best Buy.

-Favorites:  My Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex sets, Turn A Gundam sets, and Kino’s Journey.

Series that I regret buying: Line barrels of Iron.  It’s a mech series that has no redeeming factors to it.

Latest two series that I bought:  Fist of the North Star and Kino’s Journey

Just to tell you guys, I’m a huge cheap skate.  I’ve been slowly collecting anime over six years now and I only move on buying something when it’s at a price that I feel looks good.  I constantly keep an eye out for deals on Amazon and Right stuff.  That is why I don’t own many blu-rays or own anything from Aniplex and some of Funimation’s latest sets like Psycho Pass.  Also, I’m not sure if I want to replace things like Ergo Proxy and Code Geass with any of Funimation’s new releases.  When it comes to spending, I never splurge.  It’s just how I was raised.

You may notice that there is a bootleg dvd, Fullmetal Panic: Fumoffu, in my collection.  (If you want to know how you can tell, I can possibly make a post on that later).  Yeah, that is there for sentimental reasons.  This is something my brother owned before he passed away three years ago.  When I left home, that is one of the things that I brough with me to remember him.  I don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

So yeah, this is my small collection that is growing by smaller amounts all the time.  I think it’s very reflective of who I am.  There are some older series, a lot of Gundam/mech anime, some more obscure, some very popular movies and shows and somethings that recently came out.  If anything, I would like to see a glimpse of what other people currently own.  I’m not going to start something where people tag other people to see their collections, but if you are interested please do.

  1. Really solid collection you got there! I recently got Kino’s Journey as well although I haven’t had the time to check it out yet. Looks like it should be an interesting show. My anime dvds are scattered along with random movies and American shows at the moment so I don’t have a really organized section like yours yet, but maybe during my next big cleaning project I’ll be able to get them together. It’s definitely too bad that some anime are so pricey though, it’s the main reason why I never purchased Madoka Magica despite putting the show in my top 5 all time.

    1. Yeah, you are definitely right sky prices. Especially anything by Aniplex. I remember seeing Fate/Zero on just DVD for $100 a season at anime conventions and I just couldn’t well myself to get them.

  2. I WANT THAT GHOST IN THE SHELL COLLECTION! Where I am, I’d have to shell out over $150 for both Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig. My philosophy is that if I see something that can’t be streamed and it’s under $30 I get it. Currently, I’ve got Casshern Sins, Ergo Proxy, Welcome to the NHK, House of the Five leaves and Tatami Galaxy. The Casshern sins one is so gorgeous :).

    1. All Ghost in the Shell discs, except Stand Alone Complex, were pretty cheap. I was also pretty lucky when buying Stand Alone Complex. I either got them on sale or during store closings when prices didn’t matter to them.

Sounds like a start to a great collection to me. Yay more cheapskates like me :).

    1. You’re welcome.

Ghost in the Shell Arise is alright. A lot more of an action thriller kind of thing then anything else, but the movie that follows it is fantastic.
