Last Week in Space and Mechs: 5/21/18

The week before last was interesting and had many surprises to it. Most of them were either terrible, like having a recap episode when it wasn’t needed, and then there was Darling in the FranXX which made some questionable decisions that I can’t wait to see how they turn out. Everything else was still as solid as usual though. Let’s see how everything turned out this time.

Space Battleship Tiramisu Episode 7

I know that this is a parody show that makes fun of a lot of space opera stories. It’s still mostly parodying the Gundam franchise, but this was the first time that I’ve seen an Eva parody from this show. Such a blatantly obvious one too, but it was just too good to pass off. Ok, I am getting a little ahead of myself here. The first part that made this episode solid for me was the completely natural comedy behind Suburu and his older brother Isuzu. A small moment of comedy like Isuzu losing his keys and having Suburu find them not only was funny for me, but it helped cement the relationship between the two of them. A joke pulling double duty, amazing. Ok, onto the obvious Eva reference. Since Subaru was being a whiny protagonist that wouldn’t duck his head in the LCL fluid to awaken his Universe Sense (lmao), they had a big and hairy guy use it first. I think you know what the result of that was. Gross and hilarious to me at the same time. How is this seven-minute episode making me think of it so much?

Gundam Build Divers Episode 7

This is the best episode that this show has been presented so far. It’s a culmination of all the plot elements that the show has provided so far and it’s handled as well as it could be. Now that all characters have gotten stronger and have acquired their fifth member, the ninja Ayame, the Build Divers fight against the Romel team. And you know what? They own the Romel team. Like, destroy them. All the mentor figures from the previous episodes are present as well. They all admit how strong the Build Diver team has gotten. Also, Ayame is the best character in this show. Maybe her arrival is why I am liking the show more? I mean, she is incredibly attractive and as vague of a character as she should be Please allow her to remain vague for the rest of the show. Attractive mystery characters are fun. Can’t wait for episode 8 to where the plot starts kicking in.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (2018) Episode 7

I love that the take out over the iserlohn Fortress was so bloodless. It shows how much of an idiot a lot of the enemy admirals are and how great Yang is for trusting people so questionable. Yang all the way. I remember that there was a lot of bloodshed and axe fighting in the original series, but those always felt incredibly silly to me. Well, bloodless for our freedom fighters. The Empire lost a lot of ships when the now occupied fortress fire it’s main canons at the flanks of the imperial fleet. If they just fled, none of that would happen. Yang is a peace lover after all. I know what the implications of Yang’s actions are and how stupid the alliance is, so all of Yang’s push for peace are going to be ruined, but I can’t wait to see how everything moves forward and how Yang is pushed in to this war even more. Poor Yang.

Space Battleship Yamato 2202 Episode 2

How is this franchise so good at everything? Seriously? After the destruction of the Gatlatean ship (this is our enemy now) over Earth, one of the soldiers has survived the crash and is an Earth testing tank. IN that moment, we find how strong our new enemy is. The soldier destroys the tank and we are only left with a cut of what happened after with a damaged Niimi. I wonder where the soldier ended up? Cutting back from that there, I love how the relationship between Gamilas and Earth is very stressed and how most of the Earth doesn’t care about what the Yamato did three years ago. I also love the fact that we are given quick moments to see how relationships have changed for the good, the bad, and the fact that the Yamato crew has such a great bond still. A bond that is a part of the plot as well with another space girl calling for help (and it has to be the Yamato crew after all). Great ending episode stinger as well. I am trying my hardest not to spew my love over this episode. Man, I can’t wait for more. Why can’t I have all of this show out at once?

Fullmetal Panic! Invisible Victory Episode 5

After the insanity known as the first four episodes of Fullmetal Panic, we calm down with world building in a city and characters that we’ve never seen before, some arena mech battles, and assassination attempts. You know, the usual fullmetal panic things. Yes, all of that is relaxing compared to the insanity of the first four episodes. I mean, this episode reminded me a lot of the first season of fulmetal panic. Man, those were simpler times, right? I’m curious to see how long Sousuke will be in this city and why he is staying there? I’m sure that he won’t be there forever, because the plot is going to happen eventually. The plot always finds people.

Darling in the FranXX Episode 18

I am still going to watch this show, but at this moment I don’t want to talk about this show. It’s just affecting me too negatively at the moment. I promise that I will talk about at the end of the season. Pinky Promise!
