(Animanga Festival) Scott’s Bento Boxer Event Entry

Welcome to another week of Auri’s Animanga Festival posts. I’m pretty sure this week going to be about as fun as last week I hope. Or possibly even more fun. Especially since the first thing or topic I’m writing about is food related. What isn’t amazing about that aspect. Food has the tendency of looking great in anime. I don’t know what it is, but the transition from real life to animated just makes things look better. Even the most ordinary looking food has the tendency of looking mouth wateringly good. Maybe it has to do with the added expressiveness and other things attached to anime that makes it look better because we can make the food how we imagine it? I’m not sure. Maybe someone has done a study on this. I hope someone does.

Anyway, this week’s challenge is putting together a lunch box based on food we liked from different anime. I thought about how I would approach this from the perspective of trying to fit this food into a box. So basically, things that can be more compact and small, but still very delicious. I also decided to go with how I usually eat as well because I’m a white aAerican that thinks about things in certain ways. What’s wrong with that? Nothing I hope. Whatever it is, this food is going to look good.

Onigiri from Spirited Away

I don’t know about you guys, but when I think of anime food I usually jump to this item of food first. Ever since 4 kids wanted to be funny with calling them donuts in Pokémon, they have become that standard on the go sort of food item that feeds you as you travel to save the world or just get more Pokémon. Possibly both?

So this is the delicious starch item on my list that feels like a solid grounding to this meal. It’s a good place to start because it needs some item of meat to go along with it to have that standard balance. That brings me to my next item.

Minced Meat Patties from Restaurant to Another World

Restaurant to Another World features an ordinary sort of restaurant that serves all sorts of food that you can find anywhere in our world. It’s extraordinary for the fantasy characters that show up at the restaurant and the food looks fantastic so that’s all that matters here.

The Minced Meat Patties in this show look great. They are just fried meat with some sort of light breading around it, so not too fat or too heavy, just write. Plus, fried meats are just fantastic to me. It has that sort of texture to it that you can’t find in a lot of places. It’s simple, tasty, and sticks to your stomach and that’s all that matters for this post.

Vegetable Gratin in Sweetness and Lightning

I don’t know about you, but no balanced meal is complete without something healthy to go along with it. That’s where Vegetable Gratin comes in to save the day and at least make the meal somewhat healthy. So vegetable grating is our side dish and it may have some chicken, but the vegetables and cheese are the star.

This dish is like a vegetable casserole dish and honestly it looks great. I really want to try this in the future. For our lunch deal, let’s say that take some of the gratin and put in the corner of the box we are using so we don’t eat all of what was made so we can be healthy.

Desserts from Acca-13

Lastly, we have a dessert to finish this bento box off. I don’t know about you, but Acca-13: Territory Inspection is what I think of when it comes to dessert in anime. Because of that, I don’t think that I can pick one myself. So here is a bunch of pictures of dessert in the anime. Pick one for me ok? I know that’s against what this list is for, but this is really hard. I want to eat all of them.

Maybe I should have made a bento box from desserts instead? That would have been much easier probably.

So that’s my bento box. I tried to think of what kind of drink I would want to add, but my mind didn’t come up with anything fun or unique to add. I still think this would be a delicious meal to eat for lunch on any day ever. What would yours look like?

      1. So it was in a little town called Soap Lake in Grant County. It was called the Soap Lake Bistro. Unfortunately it closed down a few years back.
