The holidays sure have a lot of things going on in them. With all that family stuff going on, there is also a lot of anime finishing their own seasonal or cour runs. Well, except Attack on Titan because it wants to be different. Gah, lots of good shows and some showing how strong they can be in the end. Thank you for this, Fall 2020. I’m going to have to write two kinds of posts now, gah. This seasonal thing never ends.
This week, no Rightstuf advertisements at the end of posts. Rightstuf closed down for the holidays and I don’t really feel like going back to all the posts I wrote and insert their advertisements again. Everything will be back to normal next week.
Golden Kamuy Season 3 Episode 12 (Finale)
This episode was about a lot of things and where a lot of things clicked together. Kiroranke’s life ends her against Koito and all the men he fought to escape from his karmic fate and completely failing to do so. Ogata had his eye shot out by an arrow, but he escaped in the end which meant Asirpa didn’t kill him. This episode set the standard from the previous seasons with some intrigue from this season. Some cooking, some good family reunions, and a lot of things as the troop heads to Hokkaido.
Will Asirpa and Sugimoto work with Tsurumi completely? Has their relationship changed since they’ve last seen each other. A heart warming reunion for sure, but one with a lot of complications. A great place to end this great season of Golden Kamuy. I only hope we get a season 4 soon to pay off this conclusion and not just leave it as a cliff hanger.
Akudama Drive Episode 12 (Finale)
Oh my goodness, that was the best episode of an anime series that I’ve watched all year and I see that despite Deca-Dence and other things that had a good finale too. This is the tale of Akudama who died on their journey to bring two young children away from society and cops. Swindler woke up with a broken leg and sacrificed herself on live stream and television to awaken the civilians to protest against the executioners who killed their family. Her last Swindle, besides saying she would be ok to the twins. Her last words? She is a normal human being. A true thing yet an untrue thing at the same time.
Lastly, an injured Courier brought the twins to a place they can be safe and he had the most beautiful scenes besides Swindler’s most important moment, with tons of railgun shows him flying all over the battlefield against tron machines and executioner forces. So many great scenes that are just perfection. I also loved the end note on the executioners and epseically Pupil’s end note. The little girl looking into the eyes of her parent’s killer and asking “why did you kill my mom and dad” was chef’s kiss. This is the definitive show of 2020 and it’s basically a modern approach to Akira without the psychic abilities. I really do like it a lot.
Adachi and Shimamura Episode 12 (Finale)
I don’t have too much to say about this show’s finale besides yeah, it it’s a good note to end the show on. Adachi actually building up her motivation to be more bold then before by asking to stay at Shimamura’s house for a couple days after their friends had their own sleep over and she asks straight out of the gate without even hiding her intentions waiting for Shimamura to say yes and Shimamura does.
And that’s the finale. Adachi staying at Shimamura’s house asking for permission to do things in the softest ways and slowly breaking down the barrier between the two even when it’s there in the end still. I think that’s the perfect ending for this series. No kissing, but sleeping next to each other. Adachi isn’t bold enough yet to go for the gold yet and maybe that can happen in the future.
Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 13
While this episode did not complete anything, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I enjoyed watching the flashback to Nanami’s backstory as an office work and utterly hating it. A job where the rich get richer. Especially his consistent talks with the girl selling him sandwiches at the bakery and how that influenced him to go back to being a Jujutsu Sorceror.
Other than that, there was a great fight scene with Yuji and Nanami vs Mahito and seeing how inhuman Mahito gets over time from breaking a human’s usually body chemistry to fight to all sorts of craziness was great. The appearance of Sukuna just sitting in their chair to break Mahito’s boundary was a great moment of realization as well. Even if there is no conclusion, seeing Mahito becoming a larger villain in Itadori’s life going forward is interesting. See you all in three more weaks for some Jujutsu Kaisen.
Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 4
Well, that was a lot of slow build up wasn’t it? Gabi and Falco competing against each other, Falco doing the mailing the letters of one mysterious injured man in a hospital who is Eren Yeager. I don’t think anyone was shocked by that which makes me think of what mail is he sending and what does he mean by going home? An army of some kind is coming? There was a lot of content with the children learning how the Marlayans feel towards them while surviving them and the government doing their own political moves in terms of the military goals. There is a whole mess of things here with the world changing and everything. It’s going to be exciting to see how all of this goes next episode.
Love Live! Sunshine!! 2 Episode 13 (Finale)
I need to track down the Sunshine movie that has appeared recently or at least rent it. This final episode was pretty good. I like how the Aqours winning Love Live was just an after note because it was always the journey getting their that mattered, not the destination. I also really enjoyed seeing the girls paint the school in whatever they wanted to, even over their uniforms, before the graduation and school closing ceremony and seeing the girl groups together as well. Riko with her new pupy, Chika and her finding her wind to continue being self made, and the girls united once again at the school for one last time. Its all good stuff, but I think I need the movie as a closing note.
Dai-Guard Episode 26 (Finale)
All things considered, a great finale. Dai-Guard was able to achieve their goal of defeating the heterodyne that wants to destroy the Earth, the OE weapons were stopped by Saeki from the radical major who didn’t want to admit his mistakes, and everyone survived. I am very curious about the heterodynes still being around, but they never did defeat the heterodyne at all and it was discussed how it was a natural process. I wonder if there was a sequel planned and it never happened due to lower ratings. Anyway, once again, I’m going to miss this show and it’s wonderful and creative characters.
Bamboo Blade Episode 26 (Finale)
A very towards the future kind of episode of a finale, which I enjoy. It shows how much the girls like doing kendo, how outsiders view the team, and how much each of them enjoy having their club advisor return after who knows how long. Each of them have their goals to move forward, some situational changes in what they want to do next, and so many other things. And those two newbies confused about what is going on to show how the team has changed. A lot of good things. I’m going to miss this show quite a bit.
