A Conversation With Shoujo

I don’t know why this Church calendar thing is going, but it is the first Epiphany Sunday. The first season after Advent and the Christmas Season. I think I will stop now regarding the church season unless everyone is interested in that. There is some relevancy here though considering that Shoujo is a fellow Lutheran. There, some information that the interview won’t provide you at all.

I feel just so happy talking about Shoujo this time and it has to do with all the energy that Shoujo brings to how she writes her posts. She just carries a large feeling of cats and sparkles which is a mood, but also a way of life. Shoujo also writes a lot of cool and enthusiastic posts and stories. Stories that are fanfiction and original. Don’t just take my word for it, we should let Shoujo speak for herself!

What is your name, the kind of content you create on the internet, and the name of that or those pieces of media?

I’m Shoujo! I write about romantic, girl-targeted anime, with other titles thrown in for flavor! Plus life stuff, FanFiction, otome, and lyrics are also added on my blog from time to time! ❤ I take up Internet space over at Shoujo Thoughts: Otaku Ramblings!

When did you first start enjoying the media of which you provide a voice for online?

2015! I remember well because I had just gotten married; Husband and I moved into a tiny townhouse. One day, a friend came over and we were sitting in that tiny townhouse living room when said friend first showed me Ouran High School Host Club. (I did also watch stuff like Sailor Moon as a kid before I knew what anime was.)

What made you choose the media that you communicate your thoughts online?

I’ve been inclined toward writing since I was a child. In summer of 2016, I was going through a tough time making hard career decisions, but I decided on the biggest whim ever to start blogging about my new love of anime instead of engaging in unhealthy thought patterns. It was so helpful for me to scream into what (then) really was an abyss rather than dwell on my worries!

Has it been difficult to find a voice in the online fandom?

No, I don’t think so, because my voice is just me. We’re all so unique as people, and so for better or worse, I basically just took my personality and threw it (along with my fangirl-ing) into the expanse of the Internet! I wasn’t really thinking about creating a voice because I used my own.

When did you start gathering an audience? (Even a small amount of views or subscribers is an audience.)

Mm…. fall 2016. Later, 30 Days of anime and my daily blogs while attending AX2017 really boosted my following. I’ve been slower growing for a while now, but that’s okay, because I blog for fun! (I do get super excited when people read what I say, though! It means a lot!)

What are two posts/podcast episodes/pieces of art/etc that you are very proud of?

Oh, um… hmm… my “Victor’s Blush Means Everything” post remains one of the most popular on my site to this day, which is pretty awesome, but I just wrote it because I watched Yuri!!! on Ice and fell in love with the story. Off the top of my head, I’d say I’m proud of my English interpretation of Fuyu no Hanashi from Given. I had such a good time and worked hard on that. 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!

Thank you for asking them!! Let’s give Scott a round of applause, everybody! *inserts claps* This was a cool think you thought up. I’m still laughing about some stuff in Pinkie’s interview. (The commenting about stuff long after it’s gone out of popularity. So accurate. So relatable. I love it.)

((AWWWW, I don’t know what to say. Thanks so much Shoujo. That also feels like my brand too….))

Where can people find you online? (Twitter @/Facebook group/Blog Link/Place to find your podcasts/Patreon/Other Things?)

My blog is found at www.shoujoramblings.wordpress.com. I’m also on Twitter @Shoujothoughts. My Bio on Twitter or the social links on my blog can direct you my other haunts. 🙂

Once again, a big thanks to Shoujo for answering some questions and just being cool in general :).

Everyone out there can join in some way. Here is the link if you are interested in joining in the fun 😀 : https://forms.gle/dpGk7TaiQJrBJh5N7
