Weekly Seasonal Watches: Spring 2021 Anime Season Week 6

Seasonal Ratings:

-Just because something is lower doesn’t mean that it’s a bad show to me. If I thought a show was bad, I would drop it.
-Back Arrow is sir not appearing on this list.

Mars Red Episode 6

Found on Funimation

Well, this story was a lot more visually interesting then the writing because the writing itself was safe and passable at best. There was enough intrigue to carry everything though. Just characters talking to each other about ideals and humanity or other situations. The Lt. General’s vampire plan is in motion and we are evaluating the importance of humanity. The vampires were arguing about Colonel Maeda holding onto his humanity while he doesn’t care, with the weakest member who is also the heart and the most interesting one, trying to save Maeda’s heart and soul while allowing himself to burn in the sun after an Earth Quake. Lots of intrigue and some heart going on, but it doesn’t hit as hard as it could. I still like this show though.

Fruits Basket Season 3 Episode

Found on Funimation

My personal problem with Fruits Basket, besides some obvious things, is that I don’t think the main story is as good as the side characters and their plights. You know, the one with Tohru trying to break the curse and her romance with Kyo. It’s a good story and all of these stories wouldn’t have existed without Tohru, but they have long over shadowed that drama. This episode was Tohru’s episode. It talks about how she talks, which we lose through watching the dub, and her own weird sense of villainy and selfishness as she chooses to love Kyo and maybe leave her mom behind finally. She’s growing up and she’s understanding the truth of the situation after Shigure shared it. Poor girl. Not the best episode of this season, but a good episode regardless.

ODDTAXI Episode 6

On Crunchyroll

Well now, all the supposed plots are coming into place in this as the world of online and the real world collide in this very well constructed and thoughtfully written series. The idol fan who Odakawa helped out posted his info for the lottery online and taking Odakawa to a restaurant in an experience he hates and the gacha guy is there to cause a stirr with a gun. That interaction led to Odakawa and the baboon working together to stop the guy while also hopefully helping our Alpaca. Also, Odakawa’s friend has gone in debt with some bad dudes. The online world of the college student spouting nonsense continues and a comedian’s career improves and causes drama with his older partner. Uh oh. Fantastic episode. I don’t think there is a single episode that isn’t fantastic so far.

Back Arrow Episode 19

Found on Funimation

If anything, this is another one of those massive turn around episodes for the story itself. What appears in this episode? Rekka about to go to war against god, but not before Shu Bi allows the Granedger to solve Back Arrow’s erasure problem. With the help of Princess Fine’s abilities and Shu Bi’s intellect, Back Arrow is taken out of his Briheight. Of course since this episode focuses on Shu Bi’s intelligence and him saying it out loud, Shu Bi is destroyed by touching Back Arrow after the conclusion. What will happen next? Bit is probably going to take the mantle as the adviser and surprise everyone when the time comes for those call to be made. A fantastic episode for sure. I’m surprised that Shu Bi would fail this hard but then again I suppose he has failed many times before now. This was just his biggest blunder.

SSSS.Dynazenon Episode 7

On Funimation!

Well, I am glad the stakes of the show haven’t been fully subsided after that large cliff hanger which occurred at the end. What happened? The Kaiju Eugencists are now trying harder to kill the Dynazenon and Anti/Gridnight has appeared once again to help out the Dynazenon in its moment in need. This episode was yet another slow and character-building episode for this cast as they grow together. Not to mention how Gauma, someone who is 5K+ years old, is acting like a five-year-old when anti says they can help. Koyomi saves the husband of his middle school crush which results in those two loving each other more, Yume and Yomogi have gotten closer, and Gauma has learned to accept help. I just wonder what Chise is up to and what she is going to do next because she is a mystery. Over all, very good episode once again.

Vivy ~Flourite Eye’s Song~ Episode 8

Found on Funimation

Even with how Vivy was produced ahead of time considering all the work and put into the anime’s art and animation, it decided to expand this current arc into more than two episodes so it wouldn’t be rushed. My question is, did they have to choose the most boring arc possible? Last was ok by me, but this episode mostly Diva and Matsumoto talking to each other, Ophelia singing her art out, and then action where Vivy gets captured by a ghost she follows and Matsumoto finally realizing that he’s been out hacked the entire time due to his own arrogance. I hope the finale of this arc turn out alright because yawn. Such yawn. Yet, people love this show for some reason? I don’t get it.

86 Episode 6

Found on Crunchyroll

This show really is turning into a slow burning little piece of character drama for the most part. At least with Shin and Lena. I think the cast Spear Squad itself is rather bland in simplistic in itself, so there isn’t as much needed emotional depth for what happens to them. Still, that does lead to some very good Shin and Lena moments as they are in each other’s heads as the fights continue on and on. The great directorial focus and the expanding nature of their relationship at war with Lena constantly pushing for as much support as she can for her new squad and nothing coming back to her. The artillery will not fire for their support and they must attack a legion base currently under construction. I sense only the largest amount of drama coming next time.

Thunderbolt Fantasy Season 3 Episode 7

On Crunchyroll

Thunderbolt Fantasy seems to continue developing its plots in ways we did or did not expect. I hope the finale is as explosive as hell (ha) after all of this is over because conniving and plots can only go on for so long. That being said, I think it’s guaranteed that the demon realm is now going to attack the mortal plain gain now that Shang and TM Revolution made it ot the demon realm and caused a ruckus thanks to the Engimatic Gale inadvertently failing at stopping his schemes without him even noticing. What does that mean? Demon Waifu and Sword Waifu are still plotting some evil that is going to work without them realizing it. As long as that insanity continues it happens. Season 3 is weaker so far, but it’s a constant guessing game that I can love and appreciate anyway.

Moriarty The Patriot Part 2 Episode 7

On Funimation

I honestly do not get what the point of this episode was other then two things: 1) setting up Milverton as a villain which it did poorly other then showing him as a media man who wants to change the world and 2) ruining a lot of the founding structure and understanding of Moriarty by changing so many stakes and laws. If this case wasn’t a false thing, which it apparently isn’t, why the hell would William Moriaty and his brother want to live with the Moriarties if they already have a house and shipping business already from a noble they were able to scam. Especially a noble trying to show how he’s fallen in court and completely failing at it. The case itself was interesting, but it felt way too sided towards Moriarty intentionally in a way that was supposed to show he was a grounded bad ass. I hated it. Worst episode.

Megalobox 2: Nomad Episode 7

On Funimation

I don’t know what to say other then it’s really hard to say and see what a bad Nomad episode looks like. Especially with how great this show is in general? The small case of adding so much context and information into one episode and yet having it all completely understandable and functional is amazing. I know writers in the anime world that can do it, but this show does it so effortlessly. Today’s episode features the guy who beat Joe five years ago, Yuri’s apprentice who seeks to fight Joe again on a different capacity as a boxing partner.

We also are introduced to his coming competitor who is a family man recovering from an injury who fights for his kid. The connecting part? The kids who used to follow Joe coming into an alliance with him and using him as propaganda and it in turn makes that other fighter excited as well. Just Joe appearing adds so much energy and intrigue in wherever he shows up. The only thing I find lacking is a bigger connecting between Yuri and Joe. Otherwise, very well written and visually stunning episode.
