Weekly Seasonal Watches: Spring 2021 Anime Season Week 7

Seasonal Ratings:

-Just because something is lower doesn’t mean that it’s a bad show to me. If I thought a show was bad, I would drop it.
-Back Arrow is sir not appearing on this list.

Mars Red Episode 7

Found on Funimation

This was my favorite episode of Mars Red so far and I say that because it makes the obvious even more open in a way that feels much more human and genuine. A wonderful story about Misaki’s growing relationship with the blond vampire kid as she is an annoyance to where she can actually perform on the stage at a high leveland his growing relationshp with him too. The major point is Misaki is the part that gives all of this story much more context and understanding. The older general is her father and Colonel Maeda is her fiance. Important things to consider all about the fact she’s dead now. I wish we could see more, but this was enough for me honestly. I understand the story a bit more. Very happy with that fact.

Fruits Basket Season 3 Episode 7

Found on Funimation

Everything is coming together and yet falling apart in Fruits Basket so quickly for Akito so quickly and it’s really fascinating to watch after two other seasons to see and understand all of these characters. Akito’s struggles are very relatable and this episode filled out the final piece, her father. With his death, Akito’s relationship fell apart with her mother causing her to demand and lash out at the Souma family for not loving her automatically which causes her to abuse them more. With the Souma’s family understanding that there is outside, Akito is turning into a huge mess and the charm of her father’s spirit which she and her mother fought over is such an empty gesture. This week, that led to Hiroto being broken from the curse. There is some drama between Kyo and Tohru at the moment too, but that might be for next episode. Another so powerful and emotionally charged episode of this real classic kind of show.

ODDTAXI Episode 7

On Crunchyroll

This episode felt like the weakest one, but it is over all still pretty strong. This week, the plot goes into motion with Odakawa talking to the most justice-based police brother to discuss the person who shot a bullet in his apartment complex to actively searching for the gunner at an open mall with Dobu and completely failing at that mission. The college student is back to actively search for Dobu and almost getting him. Plus, the monkey got caught by Dobu and his crew and the masked gunner is still out there. That isn’t everything that happened, but it’s too much to put into one paragraph. Just know that I enjoyed it all because all the strengths are still there.

Back Arrow Episode 20

Found on Funimation

Man, this show. Man, THIS SHOW. What can I say about this besides it really is reaching best show of the year levels. There are two more seasons of anime ot watch, but I might be calling it right now. What happened? Chaos as usual, but very fun chaos here. Back Arrow returns to Lutoh after the death of Shu Bi to take on Rudolph after Rekka (mainly Kai and Ren) and others destroyed Supreme Rudolph’s clown protégé. So, what happens? After multiple failures with Prax and Back Arrow, Rekka shows up and changes the nature of the game against Rudolph forcing him to use his ultimate power. Good thing Bit is here to act for Shu Bi’s plan and turn the Gran Edger into a giant mecha to turn things towards the friends once again. It’s wonderful. I love it. So much gar is on display. Destroy god, do it!

SSSS.Dynazenon Episode 8

On Funimation!

Will, what a chill episode. I am getting a bit of a lesser opinion of Dynazenon by a little bit, but it’s still pretty enjoyable. This last half has been pretty good and creative just nothing amazing. Why? Well, the stakes haven’t changed enough I suppose. Especially in this episode where the Kaiju Eugenecists are just enjoying themselves mostly while Shimizu is watching the Dynazenon crew watching a random Kaiju they found on the street. A Kaiju that is coloring the world and even GAuma’s head. So, that eventually leads to the group breaking up to search for it until it turns into a giant leading Anti and Yomogi saving the day. Minami has her little moment of powerlessness and Yomogi has his little moment of Kaiju controlling. I suppose that is the plot line that moves everything forward. Four episodes to see where all of this goes and I think it will stick the landing because it isn’t flying off the air too far and that’s ok.

Vivy ~Flourite Eye’s Song~ Episode 9

Found on Funimation

This episode salvaged the rest of this arc somehow to where it is ok. Matsumoto’s fight against the AI controlling Ophelia that ghosted her was pretty basic in it’s execution story wise, but was so thematically interesting otherwise. The sad fight against Diva and Matsumoto and the former TOAK member was basic as well, but the guy turned into a robot to get revenge on Vivi was ok as well, but it looked freaking fantastic. The visuals really are lifting up the rest of the show. There was some sadness with Diva going away from Vivy’s body during her last performance, but it was ruined by all the talking she did over the song. I got a little frustrated by that. So yeah, above average episode for Vivy.

Thunderbolt Fantasy Season 3 Episode 8

On Crunchyroll

Oh man, an episode full of the Enigmatic Gale having everyone fall into his hands while Shang and TM Revolution were away. I love it so much. I loved how easily he got everyone to trust him, besides demon waifu because of past history, and having the 2.5 sides actually plotting against each other. The demons are plotting the 7 Blasphemous Death’s return and the other side are plotting to take on bad monk. Love it. With the appearance of TM Revolution and Shang from the demon realm next episode, everything is set in place for a good time. Very excited about all of this.

86 Episode 7

Found on Crunchyroll

A lot of slow reveals here too or at least a bigger spread of the disparity between the 86s and the normal ones appear. While the festival is in motion and Lena sends her squad fire works to celebrate in their own way, there is a lot of creative dissonance between what Lena sees and the lines her soldiers say to her. After her sqaud’s failure to destroy the Legion’s base and lots of them getting killed, Lena learns the real truth about the sqaud she leads eventhough that was the obvous. This is the end of the line for them, they fight until they die. There was a fanservice filled shower scene too which I didn’t like as much, but it was revealing in more ways then one in a character way too. So yeah, excellent episode. I do with this show could be sped up a bit but it is what it is. Still, it’s very good at what it does.

Moriarty The Patriot Part 2 Episode 8

On Funimation

Oh hey, this show improved a bit this week by focusing/setting up on a main story line for this particular arc? What is happening this time? A plot concerning Whiteley’s push for equity in voting. First, he had an assassin attempt to kill him during a speech and then he was tested by the Moriarties to see how strong his ideals are. Basically, he is the vocal point for the competition between Milverton and Moriarty where Milverton will threaten Whitely’s family and Moriarty gives Whiteley the tools to pass the equal rights voting law through legislature. Honestly, this episode was the strongest one so far that can be compared to the first portion of this show but it’s still pretty week regardless.

Megalobox 2: Nomad Episode 8

On Funimation

You ever just care about characters that you never expected to in the first place? Last episode, we met Liu for the first time for real when he asked Joe to fight him and Joe returned in kind. We also met Mac, the man who came from a horrible injury to become a hero for the people. So essentially, this is another Joe vs Yuri competition. What happened? After Liu showed his capabilities against Mac in the ring, Mac over clocked and took Liu down and he might never recover. Liu is in a hospital and he may never recover while Mac has a chip taking over his body. There was a sense of politics through the Shirato siblings as well. Lots of fires are about to start. I swear this episode was only five minutes long. So good.
