Ok, this season is hard to write about. Not just because it’s a lighter season to check out. None of the shows that I’ve watched started at the first time. Getter Robo Arc, Kageki Shoujo, Hamefura X, and Sonny Boy started out in enough time to at least have an opinion of at the halfway point here. Meanwhile, Magia Record Season 2 is only going to be eight episodes long and Love Live! Superstar!! Has been delayed two weeks because of the Olympics. As of writing this, it has only had three episodes come out. Because of that, I am not going to do my usual rankings in this post. Instead, I will just tell you how I feel about these shows without that bit of extra stuff here.
So yeah, here are some thoughts about these shows. Big confusing mess, go!
Hamefura X
I don’t know what to see about Villainess and the adventures of Bakarina then it’s still fun. The cast of this show are as great as always and the energy is so good. This is still a very comforting show that a person watches at the end of their work day or work week just to relax more. Also, there is some more on-going things in this story too. There is a plot about dark magic still in motion and Bakarina thinking about her future outside of school. That’s all we need for now. I really like this.
Love Live! Superstar!!
Three episodes of Superstar!! and three great episodes of these characters lovingly interacting with each other. Kanon is a very fun and relatable character who has some sense of stage fright here and Keke is a girl from China who is a creature of chaos but restrained enough to be grounded and wonderful. There are still some other great characters that haven’t gotten into the idol gig yet, but we all know it’s a matter of time. There is a lot of predictability into the show itself, but when its well done, then its very well done. Superstar is very good with its writing and its performance sequences. I love it a lot.
Kageki Shoujo!!
I don’t feel qualified about talking about a lot of the things in Kageki Shoujo because it focuses on child abuse, sexual assault, the toughness of Kouka academy, and such, but this is a very fun show. It has a lot of classic shoujo series energy in it with the wonderful and energetic Sarasa and the stoic and cold Ai building off each other in this very hard performing academy to get into. There hasn’t been a lot of lessons yet, but the story and set up are pretty good. It’s a very decent show waiting for its time. I appreciate that as well. Not as good as the shows its aping off, but that’s ok.
Sonny Boy
Shingo Natsume’s experimental anime of doing whatever the hell he wants is pretty fun. 35 high school seniors are transported to a different world/desert island, and there is a lot of time for these characters figuring out the rules of the world they are in and the powers that people possess, with them somehow living in this environment with each other. Lots of tension, lots of cool and strange powers, and lots of good bits of animation and such. That’s all we need to know so far. I can’t wait to see more of it.
Magia Record Season 2
I can’t say much yet because Magia Record is still setting up this season’s plots and ideas. The original Madoka girls are in the mix now and Yachiyo and searching for Iroha and wanting to delete the Magia group set to defeat the witch curse. That’s it for now. Still waiting to see how all the elements pay off here. That’s it. It looks great and works great for now, but what will happen in the future? Unsure right now.
Getter Robo Arc
Oh man, my favorite thing airing right now! I mean, clearly it is a Scott thing and I have been writing about Getter Robo Arc every week. It’s not the best airing show, but it is the one I look forward to the most because I really love Getter Robo. It’s so chaotic and interesting to watch in whatever form you check it out. This show doesn’t look great most of the time, but there is a lot of writing put into these characters to make them human and the whole show is well directed. I could write a lot of things about Getter Robo Arc, but this is what I am saying for now. A post will definitely happen in the future though.
Conclusion
That’s it. That’s all that I am watching for this season and my opinion about them. This is still an expanded sort of my episodic coverage of this season with bigger gulfs and stuff here, but this is a seasonal tradition that I am fulfilling. I hope you guys are enjoying this season and everything. That’s all you need. Please enjoy this even if I am being a bit of coward with this sort of way. Whatever, this is what I can do for now. See you for a more normal “In Review” at the end of the season for more defined answers.
I totally agree about Kageki shojo, I didn’t think I would really like it, but it’s surprisingly fun. My favorite character by far is Sarasa, she’s just so happy and energetic. I also like that the art style is very reminiscent of the traditional shojo manga of the 80’s and 90’s.

Yes, there are a lot of reasons to dig into it 🙂

I’m definitely glad Magia Record is off to a good start. I stopped playing the mobile game well before the season 2 events so this time the season is going to be completely fresh for me. I’ll probably start it once the show is closer to being over and then it’s binging time!

I’ve heard that there is no more English magia Record.

Yeah they had to discontinue the U.S. version. There had still been a lot of story content before it went under that I never got around to though so I guess in a way I contributed to the lack of activity there. It was fun but just super time consuming to get through
