Winter 2022 Anime At the Halfway Point

I feel like I am always going to be amazed by how we got here already. How are we five to six episodes into this season? Where did the month and some change fly by. But, I say that mostly in a good way. I don’t have any anime that I hate at all this time. If anything, there is such a delight in what I’ve checked out so far this season and I feel sad to lean on the later half of these series. But this is the time to see of these series really hit the finale at the larger level they can. Lets see them do their best and cheer for all of them as they come to hopefully well developed end.

A Handy Guide for how I feel about shows:
Solid: Seasonal Favorites, Highly Recommend.
Good: Maybe not as high quality as the first category, but still pretty enjoyable.
Ok: What it says on the tin. Maybe preferable for those who are into the genre the show is from.
Bad: I’m not even sure why I am still watching it besides maybe learning something from it.

Takagi-san Season 3

It’s more Takagi-san. I don’t think I have anything else about it. The comedy is still adorable and our two kids are getting closer to each other and might actually have a relationship soon. It’s satisfying to watch in this instance because it’s two middle school kids with a girl that likes a guy and the guy himself still discovering what girls are. It’s very fun and visually stimulating. I just really like this show.

Sakisui Bisco

This is not the best show that came out this season, but its the one that I am having the most fun with. It’s characters are simple but really well thought out and coordinated in what they achieve. I also really love this strange giant animals that are just used all the time and the it of corruption that is here and there to provide some real world texture. It’s insane and yet its fun as well.

Sasaki and Miyano

I love watching this with Irina every week. It’s just really cute. Two guys that are slowly gaining some sort of relationship with each other with some meta placements into it all. Very well directed to which is what it needs considering that the animation and visuals are just ok at best. Its probably the most fun that I’ve had in watching a series.

Lupin the Third: Part 6

There are some lupin completionists out there who seem to despise this season, but I really like it. I liked its play on fictional stories by modernizing them in some interesting ways. That is the most complicated look at Sherlock that I’ve liked in recent years because it felt like a real person and not a dumb person’s look at smart people. Also, the second part has just been pretty good so far. I like looking into Lupin’s past because we don’t get to know a lot about him.

My Dress-Up Darling

It might be controversial to place this show in here for this season, but I still really like it. Some ecchi aside, the connection between Marin and Wakana as nerd out over Marin’s cosplay construction. It feels like the two are learning about each other as well as the cosplay and event process. It’s just really good writing honestly.

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2

A bigger controversial pick for it here, but I just have a lot of problems with AOT’s sword of akasha stuff (it’s a Code Geass reference). Everyone up to that was great and so interesting. But when its two people in that super space fighting to eliminate some human beings, there isn’t any nuance there. I also never cared about Eren and he just sucks. For everything else going on, the least interesting things are getting the focus. That’s why its here and I will hold my opinion until the finale does show up.

Reqieum of the Rose King

Some good shakespeare like drama now that the war of roses is fully in play. I feel like after the somewhat rushed beginning, the show found its footing a lot more. Same with exploring Richard’s gender disphoria as well while the political events are full on display. Not a visually amazing show, but it does have some creative visual direction in ways that I really like. Almost Prince tutu like.

Conclusion

So yeah, those are my opinions on these shows for now. It’s going to be a time to see if they change as time goes on and these shows finish their cours or just runs in general. As a reminder again, nothing here at the half way point is a firmly in place. It could all change a lot more in the future. Nothing in the future is really certain at all. Now to the next 6 to 7 weeks.
