Weekly Seasonal Watches: Winter 2022 Anime Season Week 9

Rust-Eater Bisco Episode 8

Last week, I was happy with the compressed episode because that felt like the turning point episode. An episode of an anime that transitioned from one point to another thinking that the episode that comes after it would be good. That’s how a lot of anime series are like because the most plot focused episodes are the least interesting and then what happens after them are better usually because the anime finds an even ground again. I can’t say that is what happened here.

This episode was just kind of eh at best. I hated that it started with Pawoo’s tortured and the fight between our governor figure and Milo was a little too anime perhaps? It came with anime tropes with some questionable references that didn’t mean anything. The Bisco shows up and its just more of the same. Jabi had the Uncle Iroh in prison thing happening downstairs and we didn’t see any of it. I also don’t think that Pawoo is the kind of person to trust other people and run away by herself. Something is off here with the writing of this show.

The ending was just kind of horrible honestly. Milo running while carrying Bisco and eventually dying after taking five arrow hits. You know, after Jabi died too. It feels like way too much stuff happening. The fact that this is all relevant to what is going on in today’s world doesn’t hurt any of it either. I just…a lot happened in two episodes and this could have been four episodes or the seasonal final and then we get another one so the connections work better? Maybe this studio didn’t haven’t enough time for that or didn’t expect a new season, but something is off here.

Teasing Master Takagi-san Season 3 Episode 9

JUST CONFESS ALREADY, DANG IT! But yeah, the cutest date possible for these two dorks. Started strong with Santa Takagi which is already cute and fun. Then the movie date with the claw game and clips of the romance movie in question. Same with the fits there too with the gifts for couples that were just adorable. Then the walk home with the gift giving and Takagi’s “I just want you to see me as being cute.” It’s kind of amazing there too. Well executed cute classic anime things for the middle schoolers. Maybe they will become an adorable couple by the end of this.

Lupin the Third: Part 6 Episode 22

I wasn’t sure about this episode at first, but the more Haru twisted the Lupin gang into her own personal narrative in a fun way, I was very into this episode. It was adorable and so light hearted. Also pretty hilarious considering nature of the whole thing of it too in that little town of nothing going on there too. I’m glad that town’s silence was broken up for a little bit.

My Dress-Up Darling Episode 9

Other then the boob gags that were what they were, a very good emotional episode for people finding themselves in cosplay. Marin and JuJu already had their magical girl outfits on as shown by the opening episode showing so many things, but this was Shinju’s episode in discovering her own interest into crossplaying a character from the same magical girl show as the other two. It was incredible and shown how cheap they get be put into there as well and that’s great. She looked great and the whole thing was so incredible. This show knows its stuff so well.

Requiem of the Rose King Episode 9

Well dang, a lot of things are happening here. The romantic outing between Richard and Henry just ended. Also, I was not expecting, on the Lancaster side, that Queen Margaret would sit down and watch as her son Edward and Anne had sex with each other. What? But the play into getting George back with the brothers together to fight the Lancesters and there is that bit of tension of Richard not knowing who Richard is going into play as the armies of both sides start facing each other. That’s not even all of it, but it was all good tension there.

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 Episode 9

There is some good realistic writing in AOT this week. Especially since this was characters trying to find a reason to fight with each other considering how people come from both sides, Marley and Paradis. A lot of very easy camera work with focues on singular individuals probably for budget reasons as they discuss some anger issues and problems they have with each other. No real “ah yeah, we can be united together”, but there is enough of a goal and at least an understanding for them to work together. I think that is enough. Now, they have to fight the fascist Yeagerist next week which I’m sure is going to be explosive.
