Man, is it really that time again? Another season has ended with more shows being completed and this was such a good time. I didn’t even watch all the good and interesting shows that came out because it was impossible to just watch everything when I also wanted to watch older anime too. So that means more catching up on anime through out the year or just more that I put into my back log to watch later on. It’s kind of amazing that there are more and more gems that come out each season or year despite the pandemic still being around and the production crunch that is put into the anime sphere. I really think that production should slow down because there is going to be a breaking point eventually.
Yet, nothing seems to be slowing down as much as we would think. The summer season that is coming up has a lot of shows that I am interested in too. I could also say the same thing for the fall. Its crazy, just as I said, in good and bad ways. But for this post, lets talk about some series that I finished watching for this season and I will write about next season as next season happens. Possibly fair. I don’t know, but that’s how it is going to happen here.
A Handy Guide for how I feel about shows:
Solid: Seasonal Favorites, Highly Recommend.
Good: Maybe not as high quality as the first category, but still pretty enjoyable.
Ok: What it says on the tin. Maybe preferable for those who are into the genre the show is from.
Bad: I’m not even sure why I am still watching it besides maybe learning something from it.

Spy X Family
Its Spy X Family. I’ve been reading the manga ever since it came out and I knew this would be as great as it would be if it was handled right. It was handled right with great production values between two very good studios. Also, it was cute and just funny and just does everything right. Every thing they added into the material just works so I barely have any complaints.
Tiger and Bunny Season 2 (First Cour)
Besides the very weak villains that are just strong and challenge the idea of our heroes working in duos in the first place and nothing else, I really like this show. Maybe that is because Tiger and Bunny is one of my favorite anime series. Really good character work on the show’s whole cast and exceptional elements for them too. This season holds on its own for being something good too.
Requiem of the Rose King
This second cour is just so good. Seeing Richard gain everything he wants and then seeing it all taken away from him was great too. It feels like one of those old fashioned drama anime and it nails all the appeal of this by tapping into Shakespeare and playing with it in interesting ways. Some of the visuals and animation of this show feel like something from the past to whether its intended or not either.

Aoashi (First Cour)
This is the classic sort of story of a boy from nowhere showing up and just being better then everyone even if he is lacking the skills at first. He has the heart and the dedication to be the best even if he has a large mountain to climb. Very much an Olympian story. Its really cool and hits all the right notes at the right moments. its astonishing there too.
Komi Can’t Communicate (Second Cour)
This show is still earing right now so I still have two episodes to go, but this show is so good honestly. For me, this cour has generally been nailing all of its humors and jokes too. There are even some good Yamai jokes at times even if she is way too horny for her own good and should go away. Komi has grown a lot even if she hasn’t talked a lot and the relationship between her and Tadano are really good too.
Love Live Nijigasaki Season 2
Just solid love live even if it is pretty subversive to the usual Love Live stuff. That is the point and its well realized for so many things onto there too. Pushing the Love Live competition off the table, the world of Love Live was pushed a bit more by these girls just performing concerts in different units and combinations too. A really good and emotionally solid series even if its lacking the strong emotional edge that it started with. In general, the ride is pretty good with great choreography and interesting songs. Yeah, go watch it. I will write more about this in the future…by the end of the year.

AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline 2nd Cour
I feel like this show lost a lot of its energy and quality as it dug more effort into plotting out its world and other things. It was a very enjoyable series. Had simple characters and some that just went completely off the rails for the minimum amount that we saw them. But it had some cool mecha battles and was enjoyable over all there too. Simple enough and I don’t regret watching it. Not high priority stuff, but that’s ok. Simple and fun is what its about I think.
Conclusion
So yeah, those are my opinions of this season. I will soon dive into Kong Ming, Birdie Wing, the tokusatsu love series, and a few others, in the coming week one after another. As of writing this, I am almost done watching the first season of Shadows House which is so cool and is honestly one of the reasons why I have watched anime in the first place. Such an original concept that I don’t think it would be able to find in any other medium as far as I know.
Anyway, see you guys on a seasonal capacity when they start showing up. I don’t have a complete idea on what I am going to watch, so this should be exciting for both of us.
Kongming is a little rough in the early going (once you accept the absurd premise), but pays off in the final arc. Can’t wait to see your thoughts!
