Weekly Seasonal Watches: Summer 2022 Anime Season Week 2

Seasonal Anime Episode

It looks like Love Live! Superstar is following the release sort of schedule when it came out last year. That means that it’ll appear late and on a Monday night. Besides that and Fuuto Pi (Kamen Rider), every other anime that I am watching is in here now. Pretty excited to continue watching these shows for the most part.

Tokyo Mew Mew New Episode 2

Yeah, this show is just a lot of charming, simple, comfy, and goofy fun. It is a shoujo series that wears its heart on its sleeve and I just really enjoy it. For instance, the interactions with Ichigo and the handlers that created these five magical animal girls is just fun. Mainly one of them, the blond one, not telling Ichigo the changes that putting this cat DNA into her would do to affect her real life. Suddenly, we just get these silly images of Ichigo acting like a cat around her friends and then being flustered by her crush makes her cat elements appear. Funny and just great at showing where her powers come from too.

Then there are the very simple but comfy and warm introductions of the cast. Mint is shown how lazy/elitist she is and she really hasn’t done much so far but get the plot with Ichigo and others moving. The simple but touching story elements of Lettuce hanging around with girls who clearly don’t like her and are bullying her to Ichigo finally getting Lettuce’s porpoise powers to calm down in a touching scene by the swimming pool or Lettuce getting support to talking people in the end of the episode. Yeah, it’s not the best show but its doing what its doing pretty well now too.

Komi Can’t Communicate Part 2 Episode 12 (Season Finale)

While not the romantic sort of finale that I wanted in this show, though there maybe a second season, I really enjoyed this finale a lot. Some great romantic moments with Tadano and Komi involving chocolate and Tadano has met Komi’s dad now which means something. Awkward teenagers are pretty great. Then the eraser drop competition happened half way through. So cool and well animated. Also, just a great way to send off the entire cast of the show too. Even the chalkboard scene kind of returned and Komi talked a little bit more. Some great progress here. Hope there is more, but I am still satisfied for Komi for now.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 2

Just another day of adventure of Made in Abyss. Weird creatures, some cool location shots, and just delicious meals that are tasty in certain ways of cooking despite cooked things still moving? Yuck, but maybe would try once. Then the creepy stuff kind of came back. During the night, a creature stole Riko’s whistle and also some of Riko and Nanachi’s hair. Hopefully only from their heads. The creature also went through Reg’s arm trap too. Very scary stuff, so the rest of the episode is these three following a trail to get Riko’s whistle back. Some more cool environments and other details onto there too. Also, the cave dweller they came across has turned into a robot showing the danger of the abyss again. This show still grips me a lot.

Call of the Night Episode 2

Really cute episode. I love Ko and Nazuna trying to find ways to connect to each other. I also like the silly gags of Nazuna calling Ko putting his neck out as slutty because it’s funny. Same with Nazuna just having an older phone while asking about line. It really is just sexy and fun because it is unusual comedy. I could probably just watch an entire season of these two trying to interact with each other because despite being different beings, they are the same. Two beings that don’t know what love is and are not connected wit the rest of their species/humans. But the interaction with the next girl wondering what Ko is doing sure cause some conflict.

Devil is a Part-Timer Season 2 Episode 1

Yeah, this was a pretty solid re-introduction to this series. A really cool refresher that cut up a lot of what happened in first season in interesting splices. Gave the cast good reasons to interact with each other and rebuilt the comedic repertoire that all of them had last season many, many years. ago. Plus played a bit of class warfare between the demons and the heroes. Then the baby came out of nowhere who is apparently a child of Mao and Emilia.

That is definitely going to shake up some things here. Really looking forward to see what happens next. The art designs aren’t too bad because they work with the comedy, but they are sanded off shonen character designs. Still, it really does feel like this show really hasn’t missed a beat at all in terms of its character writing. Well, for the most part. Can’t believe there is more coming soon.

Shadows House 2nd Season Episode 2

Man, this show is just written so well and knows how to create tension for us an the characters. Especially since the drama has grown so much stronger and the Star Bearers are not meeting together. Also, the drink that makes “dolls” loyal to shadow house are being spread around. Kate is planning to join with John in regards to plotting against Shadows House all while Emilico is watching her partners getting more and more drowned into brain washing. Man there is osme heavy stuff here and its crazy. Haunting show in some terrifying ways.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Episode 2

Well, I didn’t hat this episode as much as lat time. Possibly because it was in the realm of watchable. So basically it allowed the writing to become less shadows by brown colors and filters by how awful they are in general. Besides the generic sort of boy walking in on a woman changing scene, the writing is good. Yuuhi seeing how weak is while Samidere is infinitely charming and powerful in all respects. Great amount of tension there. And a lot of other things too considering that something is clearly wrong with Samidere if she wants to destroys the world when she is gone form it. So in general, very acceptable episode of this show.

Aoashi Episode 15

This show man. While some characters always stay the same and being annoying, a lot of the characters are growing or given their own moments to shine. The main character is Aoi and he is struggling with everything as a defensive player. Still doesn’t know the shuffle move and wants to go up front, but is starting to figure out that its ok to be defensive player and possibly tap into the vision of seeing what other players are going to do. Ohtomo and Togashi had some little moments to shine too. Or the rich girl wanting to be a soccer manager finally getting her interesting about soccer challenged a little bit. Genuinely good episode just like usual.

Yurei Deco Episode 3

Wow, even more of the world of Yurei Deco in this world and since the name of the place where Hack’s trial is happening is called the “Customer Center”, this is definitely the hell world of where Amazon and Facebook joined together to control everything. Especially since there are literal people that registered people with Deco’s can’t see, the Yurei. An entire class system of where people are thrown into a very clean and manufactured environment based on likes and then the others who are thrown into the worst parts of the society with no support having to feign for themselves. We get that through the quick flashbacks from the tall woman, Finn.

So the very fact that Berry’s eye is broken is the reason why she can see the Yurei at all. At the same time, it does cause her some connection issues too which are probably going to be a constant through out this show. I like it because it can provide grounding. Berry helping these Yurei to find evidence was simple and fun. Same with Berry coming in to the trial in a suit that started to break down during the session because her eye was creative too. We also get some character moments of Hack either being free and moving or not moving and falling asleep. Very dog like. I like this show a lot. It gives me a lot to think about.

This Week’s Episode Ratings

Last year, I started a small graph system that I used to rank the weekly episodes I’ve watched. I’m going to bring it back for this season and see how it goes. I just want to make my opinions a bit more clearer other then “I really like this anime episode that did those things?”. If this helps at all.

Now, this doesn’t mean that the episode on the bottom is bad. Just that that it wasn’t as good as the others. That’s it really. In the end, this is all arbitrary after all just like most of what I blog anyway. It’s just another thing, what is the difference?

  1. Love the graph! A lovely visual addition. Yeah, The Devil is a Part Timer is pretty good so far, I’m definitely going to keep watching it! I’m curious about the New Tokyo Mew Mew, I watched the original series and loved it, so I’m wondering how this new one will compare. I must watch it! I really want to watch Call of the Night, but there’s just so much to watch this season it’s hard to keep up with all of them! Thanks for keeping us up to date on how these series are going, maybe I can pick them up later!

    1. I’m glad that the graph adds something to all of this.

I agree with this season being too busy. So many shows are once again going towards my backlog that I will have to watch eventually because of the too much that there is.

  2. Definitely agree with the graph being a nice addition, gives a nice visual flare to the presentation. If I were ranking everything I’ve watched so far, it would probably be Abyss or Devil is a Part-Timer. Really happy that both series came back as strong as they did.
