Weekly Seasonal Watches: Summer 2022 Anime Season Week 10

Seasonal Anime Episodes

Oh man, so many good episodes of anime came out this week. It was crazy good and it really shows. It is very interesting to see what shows have some real strengths that they can dig into during their last hours while others that are lacking really show that they can make good stories still. Good stories, but lacking in some bits of execution and little flaws which hold them back a bit. Just the nature of anime in some ways, but there is some good thoughts and other ideas for them too. That is the nature of watching a lot of seasonal shows at once.

Love Live Superstar!! Season 2 Episode 8 (Not This Week)

No live live this week due to covid 😦

Tokyo Mew Mew New Episode 10

Well, this episode would have worked a lot better if it didn’t feel like I missed an entire cour or five episodes. Ichigo turning into a cat because the girls are getting stronger really doesn’t make sense because they haven’t done anything yet. Can’t you just turn her into a cat because its fun because that doesn’t change anything. Same with the drama of what is happening above Tokyo Tower and the girls not being able to function with out her. Great in concept, but well, I wish the girls could have spent more time together for it? But it is setting up a finale, so hope its good.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 10

What an incredible episode guys. So many crazy moments and all of them were between Reg and Faputa. Especially as Faputa was literally destroying and killing everyone in the village. Their backstory compared to their current combat. So enthralling, well animated, and well textured for them too. I also like the fact that Belial can let Nanachi go in these times was great. I hope it all ends ok, but who knows truly how it will go here for it too.

Call of the Night Episode 10

I liked thie episode a lot more then I thought I would. I think that when this show actually focuses or looks at humanity in its own unique way it’s pretty good. Plus, Nazuna worked at a maid cafe, so that is kind of a plus. But yeah, the small level of introspectial from seeing how other people are off the wall, like Arisa and putting her own camera shots on the web to get more attention, made a lot of sense. Plus it went into that realm of where fanservice could have been much higher then it was, so its kind of amazing. Last episode was a favorite, but this is close.

Devil is a Part-Timer Season 2 Episode 9

Well, at least this episode was a lot of fun in a way that I generally enjoy. A lot of good dragon ball level of humor with strong people in society. I mean, the episode started with Emi just flipping a bear. What can possibly be wrong about a character just doing that? Then the capture of some farm robbers was actually animated pretty well with great Emi moments of her just breaking through the top of a car. Or Mao’s appearance. I had a better time then I thought I would.

Shadows House 2nd Season Episode 10

I was hoping that Shaun and Emilico would play into the match between Maryrose and Rosemary, and well, they did. I love the team work of Shaun and Emilico because they are such a perfect balance for each other. The bubbly and observant Emilico and the more serious and intelligent Shaun. Kind of the opposite when it comes to Kate and John, which is kind of cool. The our of them working together took down their villain and they impressed the Starbearers. Absolutely fantastic episode.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Episode 10

Pacing wise, this was a good episode. Especially seeing all the knights together on the beach and just given some really interesting moments to just enjoy each other. Especially seeing their dynamics together as they fight against a golem together and find a way to win. Or just seeing Samidare completely shock Animus with her very chuunibyou actions to take him out instead of standing by. So yeah, a lot of good things and the action animation was pretty good in this episode. There is just some clunky pacing that takes me out of it.

Aoashi Episode 22

Man, what an incredible episode. Lots of great sports action, great character beats, and everything from through out the season is culminating in this incredible game. It was amazing to see Tachibana score. At the same time, it is a little embarrassing to see Aoi tap into that same energy that Kaneda is and wanting to get goals instead of just enjoying the game. Some incredible character work and well articulated ideas for them here too. So there is that reason attention at the end where it all feels like its crumbling too. So much just good tension everywhere.

Yurei Deco Episode 11

An episode that isn’t as powerful at it could be, but it was a fun time in terms of story location and scale of Mark Twain. A land that feels very Miyazaki with a lot of technological twists, is the mainframe of the entire city. Some good emotional beats too. Especially from Barry discovering what her parents did for her during her search for Phantom Zero. Strange that Hack, a data person, did give Barry a decent talk about how data isn’t everything. I really wish this show felt natural because it felt very check list, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Fuuto PI Episode 7

I had a lot of fun with this episode. The start of it was just hilarious because Shotaro and Philip hunted for mushrooms in the middle of a cold mountain. Then the ramping situation of them being saved by an attractive woman and then finding themselves in a strange masked wedding scenario was pretty hilarious. Of course it also came down to it being a murder case with the main villain, also in mask, was appearing. It’s a very simple and wonderful show for all of those things. I do notice that every story focuses on women, but at least they are really good ones.

This Week’s Episode Ratings

Last year, I started a small graph system that I used to rank the weekly episodes I’ve watched. I’m going to bring it back for this season and see how it goes. I just want to make my opinions a bit more clearer other then “I really like this anime episode that did those things?”. If this helps at all.

Now, this doesn’t mean that the episode on the bottom is bad. Just that that it wasn’t as good as the others. That’s it really. In the end, this is all arbitrary after all just like most of what I blog anyway. It’s just another thing, what is the difference?
