Weekly Seasonal Watches: Winter 2023 Anime Season Week 7

Seasonal Watches

This week, I was sick with covid. Mostly Sunday and Monday where I was pretty sick but not bed ridden followed by me being well enough to be bored being bored from Tuesday to Thursday before I tested negative. So I watched a lot of anime films (ok, four) alongside all of these anime.

Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 6

Ah, I see how this cour is going to move now. I love how in-depth the world building is in Vinland Saga because this one something huge like Canute taking the throne is such a huge deal. Same with Kihel giving so much gold to that now dead king, in order to keep his land safe by all but thieves. Then you have the life of the slaves on the plantation by Einar and Thorfinn working with the old man of the plantation just to get a horse to make their job easier. Plus that sense of doom and gloom by having it not being protected enough by an invading force that probably will be coming soon.

High Card Episode 6

This was a mediocre heist on a cruise ship sort of episode. Ok, it was generally fine because it was executed well enough and easy to follow. It was very much like a modern sort of Lupin episode where everyone played a good part and it was funny. The stakes was the key here and they were destroyed by the real enemy coming in last second and just destroying everything that was built up. Clearly, there is a third party at play now and they were just tossed into the card competition instead of just having this game to outwit the bad guy in the end. Plus, Finn being sea sick was almost pointless too. So yeah, felt like an episode that barely hit.

Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible Episode 6 (Now on Hiatus)

Very cute episode this week. A good one to move onto a hiatus for too. Some really cute teasing of Shiraishi vs the entire Kubo family just noticing him out of nowhere and then the lack of feeling Kubo has in her world when Shiraishi is sick at home. Some just generally cute things just like Shiraishi taking Kubo to the nurse’s office when she is sick after he just came back. I just don’t think that he has noticed yet.

Tsurune – The Linking ShotEpisode 7

Oh this episode was a lot of fun once again. Especially since it did focus on Ryohei, Sae, and Shu mostly. All that time of seeing Sae and Ryohei talk to each other and then the small moments of understanding that occurred when Shu and Ryohei talked about experience versus finding some love for it. Just the drink called Coca Cola changed the lives of these rich people and I find that astonishing. Yes, the boys are still figuring out some way in to work together whether its copying the same motions or learning about breathing. Some pretty expected comedy came from moment and the context from all of it. Just a very comfortable episode for all of it.

Tomo-Chan is a Girl Episode 7

Another episode that just had so much energy to it that I couldn’t help but love all of it. The first part of this episode was how Jun and Tomo-chan met and I can really see why Jun would see Tomo-chan as a boy. She dressed like a usual teenage boy would act and that’s about it. All really cute stuff for them too. I also liked kid Mizusu because she is wonderfully cold blooded for those ages. Then now we Jun versus these girls at the beach and well…that changed some things for him too because Tomo-chan was wearing a bikini and Jun couldn’t take it at all. Wild times.

Bofuri Season 2 Episode 6

I’m glad that Kanade, IZ, and Kuromu got some more focus this episode in their own specific sorts of ways when they acquire their pets. Especially since it matched the bit of personality that we got from each of them. Kanade, the clever and thoughtful one, has a cool slime that can turn into her, IZ has one that required Mii and Maple to fight off threats to get rare artifacts and items, then Kuromu with his even edgier ghost pet he acquired. The next competition is going to be fun if we see it from all ends.

Urusei Yatsura (2022) Episode 18

The fun times of ridiculousness seem to continue this episode with more alien things making their way to distrupt…will…hardly normal human lives. The opening segment of Lum creating some lipstick which will magnetically attract people wearing it together leads to so much chaos when Ataru just steels it and uses it in his classroom of horny teenagers. Then the second part with Ataru trying to find something that Lum is allergic to for their class’ weird hot pot operation (which was naturally tons of garlic) and then the addition of the Chomp Chomp fruit that eats people created even more fun bits of chaos. Yeah, just fun times happening once again.

Trigun Stampede Episode 7

This episode was insane once again. I say that considering how such a usually high factor, the raiders with highlights from last episode were there as a setting prop and didn’t ad anything at all. The Sandsteamer is not headed to the town that has Wolfwood’s orphanage and is about to fire a laser canon to destroy it. So one by one, after defeating Livio that is after Vash, these items are resolved through different means. The laser canon is physically lifted by Vash and Wolfwood and then its stopped through some magic foolery like Vash talking to the plant. All while Legato and Zaze just watch. That isn’t even everything in it and it was such a good episode.

The Fire Hunter Episode 6

The two story lines are finally colliding as Touko and friends make it to the capital and Koushi is being pushed around by a capitol Fire Hunter to go outside and see the fiends themselves. Plus, Touko and Kanata met Kira, the one girl apart of the family that Koushi is living with at the moment, after getting lost. Then mentions of how the Spyders have control over the fiends and an attack against the capitol is coming some. Everything really is moving pretty fast now that everything and everyone is around the capitol. The fate of humanity really is at a balance hear considering how so many village are struggling and need the capitol to survive. Another great episode.

Soring Sky! Precure Episode 3

It took three episodes for it to get here, but this show is a lot of fun. You know, even if the first three episodes are identical besides the main ideas behind them. It’s fine, this is a cute kid’s show. This episode in particular had Sora and Mashiro run into Kabuton again which involved Sora turning into a precure again and her winning again. Though, this episode was different because Princess Ellee actually talked to her parents so they know she’s ok now. So yeah, just generally cute and solid with it still setting up things for now too. I mean, we got an idea of who the Grandma is now too. So important things happened.

Weekly Ratings

Last year, I started a small graph system that I used to rank the weekly episodes I’ve watched. I’m going to bring it back for this season and see how it goes. I just want to make my opinions a bit more clearer other then “I really like this anime episode that did those things?”. If this helps at all.

Now, this doesn’t mean that the episode on the bottom is bad. Just that that it wasn’t as good as the others. That’s it really. In the end, this is all arbitrary after all just like most of what I blog anyway. It’s just another thing, what is the difference?
