This season has been really engaging so far. There are shows that have me hanging on my hands and knees waiting for the next episode to appear in the coming week. So many mysteries and character beats that carry that addictive “what’s next” sort of story elements. Will this one show reveal to us all of these elements in interesting ways? Will some characters survive the trauma they are facing this time? It is a very peak television sort of season where I am in weekly discussions trying to figure out where a show might go in the next episode and then it turning out wrong.
Not only is this season full of shows like that, it’s the type of season that has a wide variety of shows to enjoy. There is mecha shows, there is sci fi stories, fantasy stories, romance stories, romance comedies, shonen action series, magical girl series, and so many others. It really makes me happy that I can get not only the shows that I want to watch and/or would naturally dive into while trying other shows. The best part is everything has been decent or better to hang out with. I don’t dislike being put into this many shows when they are good.
A Handy Guide for how I feel about shows:
Solid: Seasonal Favorites, Highly Recommend.
Good: Maybe not as high quality as the first category, but still pretty enjoyable.
Ok: What it says on the tin. Maybe preferable for those who are into the genre the show is from.
Bad: I’m not even sure why I am still watching it besides maybe learning something from it.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Season 2
I have to say, this show has been incredible once again. The first season had a lot of good character beats, mecha action, and drama, but this second season has been pure pain in a good way. Asticassia Academy has been broken, the duels are pointless now, and every character has made some deep and huge moves, including Lady Prospera pulling out her trump cards. It’s war and it’s horrible, but the story telling is good as innocent teenage lives are wrapped up in situations they shouldn’t be in. It’s the pure Gundam experience.
Skip and Loafer
This show is really good and cute. I have no other things to say about it. A country girl moving to the city in order to get the most important part of the story. But that is just where the story begins. One girl gets cool friends, a possible relationship with someone who is his exact opposite, and so many other things. It’s such an emotionally intelligent series while focusing on one of the most straight forward goof ball characters possible. It’s so good.
Vinland Saga Season 2 (Cour 2)
Vinland Saga has always been good and it will forever be good. Yeah, that’s all I have to say about it as we look into what happens when people go all in on violence as their very lives are ruined. Same as a person who has done the deepest and darkest deeds of killing people and is trying to live with it. All while exploring the depravity of how bad slavery can be in a realistic way with war on this farm coming. this is some of the most human story telling I’ve ever seen and it’s so powerful. All of this from a Viking story.
Heavenly Delusion
This is another series that feels like its for me, but other people seem to like it too. It’s a cool post apocalyptic sci fi story that has twists around every corner and an interesting world to explore. It does feel like a typical post apocalyptic world is but there are enough differences and development that its so interesting. Plus, all the character interactions are great. Every episode is another breadcrumb to unveiling something about everything and watching it unfold alongside speculation is great. I do worry about how this will turn out, but it’s been a good ride.

Birdie Wing Season 2
It’s Birdie Wing. That’s about all I have to say about it. It’s subverting a lot of my expectations in good ways because this show is the kind that pulls off the most insane twists and doesn’t look back at them. That’s why it’s so stunning at what its doing. This is a golf show and while golf is a part of it, it’s a lot different then what you would expect.
Soaring Sky! Precure (Cour 2?)
This show is just pure and good fun. That’s about all it needs to be there too. It’s a cute magical girl story with fantasy worlds and characters that I can’t help but like with solid action. It’s wholesomeness is what keeps me going sometimes. Especially this season when there is a lot of dramatic and draining things there too. I’m glad that I am getting into precure this way.
Tokyo Mew Mew New Season 2
This season is a lot better then the first one so far. The plot is still there with the aliens attacking and causing havoc. A lot of that comes from the villain’s schemes being larger then ever before fooling the huge climax of season 1. Plus, the show is focusing on characters and having a lot more fun. The whole thing is much more natural and powerful then it was before hand.
Mashle: Magic and Muscles
It’s a very simple show with a muscle head with no magic pushing around magic society. Like, this is actually Harry Potter if the main character just pumped iron and wasn’t very smart or perceptive of other people around him. The visuals are ok with some surprises at best, but the comedy and its execution was great.
Hell’s Paradise
This is another shonen action show and I am enjoying it for the most part. Having the concept of criminals and their executioners on an island searching for the key to eternal youth is a great concept. Especially with that island being a forest of so many strange things. The execution is a bit off for me though because it’s very clunky and awkwardly put together.

A Galaxy Next Door
A princess from an island descending from star people meets a young man who owns a small apartment complex and is also a mangaka. This show is a bit on and off for me in how too sweet or just the right balance it is. There are a lot of things that I enjoy about it and then there are a lot of times where I roll my eyes at it too. Still, it’s good for a comfort watch after watching so many dramatic things.
My Home Hero
This show man. A family fighting against a yakuza group is good and compelling stuff in concept. The execution doesn’t always get there though. Sometimes moments are taken so seriously or directed in a way that I couldn’t help but laugh and think it was intentional. Other times, you have these high intensity mental chess games against our family who is woefully out matched pulling off some partial win or something. This show needs to find its balance.
Conclusion???
Nothing to say here but I hope all the shows keep going on how they want to. The smallest things are that I hope A Galaxy Next Door and My Home Hero are shows that I watched for more then a cool down series or some so good its bad moments. That’s about it really, just going to enjoy the ride of this series as long as I can.
